A classic of the lure fishing world, the Breamer Vibe by Ecogear is a vibe lure shaped like a tucked up prawn that is fleeing a predator. It’s a thin, almost tear-dropped shaped piece of metal and some are made from hard plastic. It has a weighted end that would be the tucked tail of the prawn and the head end is where the two assist hooks are, with a few small rubber legs to add that extra bit of attractant. Right between the head and tail of the lure are two holes to attach the lure that will change the position of how the lure stands, moves and vibrates through the water.
The vibe aspect of the lure comes as you reel it in. I have found that a slow retrieve works best. The weighted end will cause the lure to shake from side to side as if a startled prawn has been disturbed from its hiding place. Also, in deep water or cast off the end of harbour walls, a simple lift and fall works well. It can be an odd experience the first few times you use it, as you really feel the vibration and movement through your rod. But once you get used to this, you will quickly determine when hits are happening.
I fish these mostly on sandy ground, but because of the angle these lures sit, they do quite well over mixed ground as well as the hooks sit quite high up. The selection of fish you can target with this lure is broad, from gurnard, bass, mackerel, pollock and even bream, as the name suggests, although this lure was originally designed for bream in Australia.
The assist hooks can be modified and changed over with smaller hooks depending on the fish you are targeting.
All round, this is my favourite vibe style lure and will continue to be as it just does its job so effortlessly and makes for a satisfying catch on any target species, and with enough colours to keep the magpie in you happy it’s well worth the investment.
